At NCAI’s 2018 Annual Convention, Harvard Honoring Nations – which identifies and celebrates outstanding programs in tribal self-governance – presented the six recipients of the 2018 Honoring Nations Awards.
Among the recipients was the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma’s Myaamiaki Eemamwiciki Program. The Myaamiaki Eemamwiciki Program (the Miami Awakening) reincorporates the Myaamia culture and language into the community through curriculum, youth summer camps, cultural gatherings, publications, mobile cultural workshops, and other educational programming. The Program focuses on communal ties and inclusivity to engage every citizen.
Sharing the Miami Tribe’s story of governance success in this video is Chief Douglas Lankford of the Miami Tribe.
