3 missing Houston men found in area waterways in recent weeks

At least three men who were reported missing in recent weeks have turned up in waterways and bayous around Houston, and at least one volunteer involved in the search for the missing men said that fact raises eyebrows.

Alejandro Torres, 29, was the latest person found, with Houston Police Department investigators locating his body in Buffalo Bayou Saturday.

But before the discovery of Torres’ body, Delano Burkes’ body was found floating in the Houston Ship Channel on Nov. 25, more than two weeks after he was first reported missing after leaving a Heights-area bar. And a search team Nov. 15 found a body believed to be a missing Oklahoma man in Brays Bayou, near the 4500 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Officials with the Houston Police Department did not immediately respond to questions about whether these deaths might be connected. And the Harris County medical examiner’s office has not yet determined a cause of death in any of the cases.

But Mark Edwards, a member of Texas EquuSearch who helped with Burkes’ search, said he thought the similarities were worth keeping an eye on.

“It certainly sends up a bit of a red flag,” he said. “I know (Burkes’) mom and family were concerned from the get-go about possible foul play. But thus far, there hasn’t been evidence of that.”

Burkes found in Houston Ship Channel

Friends and family had been searching Houston for signs of Burkes, 26, ever since he disappeared early in the morning on Nov. 12. He was last seen leaving McIntyre’s bar.

A real-estate investor and former Texas A&M football player, Burkes had become separated from his friends at the bar. His friends left the bar without him, and Burkes was seen leaving the bar around 1 a.m., walking west toward White Oak Bayou.

The Houston Police Department announced a body had been found floating in the Houston Ship Channel on Nov. 25. The crew of a tugboat saw the body and a police department dive team recovered it.

Ridge Cole missing while in town for child’s surgery

A search team Nov. 15 recovered a body out of Brays Bayou that is believed to be that of a missing Oklahoma man who disappeared while in Houston for his child’s surgery.

Ridge Kyle Cole, 28, stepped outside to spoke a cigarette while on a trip to Houston for his 1-year-old’s liver transplant. It was the last time his loved ones saw him.

He was in Houston for two weeks before going missing.

Cole’s wife tried calling him, but the phone just rang with no answer, Edwards said.

Torres found dead in Buffalo Bayou

Investigators found Torres’ body around 1:45 p.m. Saturday in Buffalo Bayou, near 11 Pinehill Lane, according to the Houston Police Department.

A dive team recovered his body and transferred it to the Harris County medical examiner’s office. His body didn’t have obvious signs of trauma, but a cause of death is still pending.
